What’s the difference between mils and microns?

A mil is equal to one thousandth of an inch (0.001). Mils are used to describe the thickness of low density bags, which can range from 0.7 to 6.0 mils. The mil count for standard trash bags found in stores ranges from 0.7 to 1.0 mils. For extremely heavy or large amounts of trash, choose a bag with 3.0 or higher mils.

A micron is a unit of measure equal to one thousandth of a millimeter (a standard sheet of paper is 100 microns thick). Microns are used to describe the thickness of high density bags, which can range from 6.0 to 20 microns.
